  • Getting Ready
    The Polar Huskies are watered every morning before heading out on the training run.
  • Hitching
    Ashley, Joar and Lightning show the set-up on the main-line that the Polar Huskies get hooked up to.
  • Wound Up!
    Few Polar Huskies are as wound up as Luna – Ashley hooks her up next to Trigger getting ready to go for a training run… Don’t miss Luna every Thursday writing her Luna Log!
  • Ready to Roar
    It's take-off time for a training run!
  • Lead Dog Decisions
    On the move during a training run—Tucker and Miki are running in lead on the second team with Ashley on the 4-wheeler. Getting a bit too close to the first team in lead, Ashley yells woav to stop the team… Tucker is of a different opinion!
  • Hop!
    After a short break - Ashley gets the Polar Huskies back up to go: there is no one command for starting the dogs, but "hop!" is one of them!
  • Steering the Team
    There are a number of commands that we can yell to the lead dogs for them to steer the team – to go right we yell "gee!" to go right we yell “cha or haa" (Joar says haa, Mille says cha.. the dogs don’t care!).
  • Breaking Trail
    On the expedition we rarely have trails to follow—and running across the fields around Basecamp in Minnesota we train for the same conditions. While Joar commands her, Lightning does a great job making her way, ‘breaking trail’ as we call it.
  • Crusing!
    Running on snow mobile trails on the fields around Basecamp in Minnesota the Polar Huskies are cruising at an excellent speed!
  • Briiiiiiiiii
    Going downhill Joar calls for the Polar Huskies to kick it into high gear the last few hundred yards of the training run.
  • Home!
    Ashley arrives back at the dog yard with his team lead by Nazca and Cinnaman, after a good training run.
  • Fixing Up the Sleds
    Expedition basecamp manager Jim Chick has been hard at work for months & months keeping things moving to get the expedition on the trail: Maintenance on the expedition sleds he takes off all the cross boards, sands them down, re-paint & tie them back on!

    Joar and Ashley tests the two fire-arms that we bring on the expedition to be able to shoot warning shots towards polar bears that may approach us on the trail.

    Our tunnel tents are made up of four arches which makes them incredible strong even in windy conditions - Watch Mille set one up!
